Medical taping

Taping is a procedure during which the physiotherapist sticks one or more self-adhesive elastic bands on the patient's body in a special way, which are stretched to a certain strength, achieving the desired therapeutic effect (correcting muscle activity, promoting microcirculation, etc.).

Taping relieves pain and tension on the skin or muscles, relieves lymph congestion, improves blood circulation in the subcutaneous layer, supports muscle movement, corrects positional problems and joint stability problems. Aesthetic taping, which reduces wrinkles, corrects the face oval, reduces double chin and oedema, etc., is becoming more and more popular.

Taping helps regulate:

  • muscle functions (reduces muscle fatigue, improves muscle contraction, increases range of motion, relieves pain, improves microcirculation);
  • lymphatic function (improves lymph flow);
  • joint functions (corrects incorrect position, improves range of motion, relieves pain);
  • neuro-reflective function.

Back taping and leg taping are in great demand – areas that are often exposed to various injuries, overwork and tension. Back taping can also reduce chronic pain and correct posture, while leg taping in childhood can promote anatomically correct leg development.

Areas of influence: whole body.

Duration of the course: the exact duration of the course is determined by the specialist.

Recommendations before and after the taping procedure

Before the procedure, body hair should be shaved in places where taping is planned. Taping should be done about half an hour before sports activities.

After a shower, a slight itching may occur in the taped area, if it does not decrease, it should be observed whether an allergic reaction develops. The tape should not be torn off quickly, so as not to damage the skin.

Contraindications:

  • thrombosis in the acute phase;
  • acute skin diseases or lesions;
  • generalized oedema in heart or kidney failure.
